Connected Curriculum
At St. Nicholas-at-Wade Church of England Primary School, we are committed to providing a broad and balanced curriculum that not only complies with national requirements but also strives to engage, inspire, and promote inclusivity among our pupils. Our curriculum is informed by the “Cornerstones Maestro Curriculum,” which adopts a cross-curricular approach to learning. This methodology effectively immerses pupils in thematic units, allowing them to explore concepts across various disciplines. This approach encourages students to apply their knowledge, challenge their understanding, and express their learning creatively to diverse audiences.
Furthermore, our curriculum is significantly enhanced by a variety of off-site learning opportunities and the expertise of visiting professionals. Pupils benefit from interactions with members of the church community, emergency service personnel, and specialists across fields, enriching their educational experience. Regular excursions to theatres, museums, parks, and more, along with residential trips for upper juniors, foster practical learning.
Our curriculum planning is underpinned by substantive and disciplinary knowledge, ensuring clear end points for each subject. Each subject area is meticulously designed to be sequenced and progressive, building upon children’s prior knowledge. For further insights into our commitment to fostering potential across all subject areas, please refer to our Teaching and Learning Policy and individual class pages.
Please look at the curriculum overviews on class pages for the details of what the pupils will be learning in each term.
