What are we learning in Term 2?

Urban Pioneers

Hop on the bus and take a trip downtown, where the lights are bright and every street has a story to tell.

Explore with fresh eyes the art of the city, then capture a moment in time – perhaps a reflection on a building or a shadow passing by. Make a map of your home town and find how things have changed. Has time changed town life for the better?
How could you improve the urban environment? Maybe add more colour? More light? More things to do, or perhaps a plaza with a comfortable bench or two?

Now light up the village with creations of your own… a statue, a light show, a monument or street art. The possibilities are endless so what will you choose?

You’re an urban pioneer…so get ready to go!

To launch our topic we will be visiting Canterbury on 1st November 2017.

In Term 1 our topic was Mighty Metals

You’re an engineer, a scientist, a maker of me (iron men of course!).

Explore the scientific world of forces and magnetism, metals and materials…Expand your mind as you test and trial, build and move.

Which force is at play as you slide down a slide or swing a swing? Can you explain why magnets repel and attract?

Then, meet Hogarth the Iron Man’s companion…The Iron Man wants a friend…Can you build him one? You must build him strong, sturdy and ready to rumble!>

As well as our topic based homework we expect children to complete weekly My maths homework to consolidate class maths. In addition, children can complete Times Table Rock Star Challenges.

Reading continues to remain a priority and we ask that your child has the opportunity to read and / or share books with you on a daily basis.

Spelling in Year 3

At the end of term 2 Year 3 will hold a Class Spelling Bee Competition. Each week we will focus on a different spelling rule and the children will underline words on their Spelling Bee Lists to learn.

How do we reward the children’s behaviour?

In Class 3 we remember to follow the 5 bees;

Be respectful

Be kind and gentle

Be careful

Be responsible

Be the best you can be

In PSHE we will been thinking about feelings and emotions and how these impact on our behaviour. We will be using The Zones of Regulation to describe and discuss our emotions. Please follow the links for more information.
